- Science and Education for Water Services
In 1998, the Capacity Development of Water and Environmental Services (CADWES) research team was formally established at
Tampere University of Technology (TUT).
As its mission CADWES has defined "to produce usable knowledge and education,
based on multi- and interdisciplinary research, on the evolution and development of sustainable use of water services
and water resources in a wider institutional context: organisations, governance, management, economics, legislation,
policy, rules and practices".

According to TUT tradition every fifth year a special promotion ceremony and celabration is organised whereby those, having obtained their doctoral decrees,will be awarded a doctoral hat. On the 25th of May, 2007 three gentlemen from the CADWES team received their hats.

The International Center for Research on Environmental Services and Governance (ICES) started operation. The International Environmental History Group (IEHG) at the University of Tampere, Dept. of History, and the Capacity Development in Water and Environmental Services (CADWES) research team at Tampere University of Technology established a joint center – ICES – to promote international publishing and visibility of multidisciplinary research on water services governance and management.
The final Watertime Workshop was organised at the University of Greenwich 25 November 2005 the CADWES team being a partner.
