In 1998, the Capacity Development of Water and Environmental Services (CADWES) research team was formally established at Tampere University of Technology (TUT).

As its mission CADWES has defined "to produce usable knowledge and education, based on multi- and interdisciplinary research, on the evolution and development of sustainable use of water services and water resources in a wider institutional context: organisations, governance, management, economics, legislation, policy, rules and practices".

The next CADWES doctoral defense will be held on the 18th of March, 2016, Room RG202 at 12.00 by Sanna-Leena Rautanen ttled ”Access to Water? Dynamic Capacity Change for
Sustainable Rural Water and Sanitation Services for All (Saatteko vettä? Dynaamisten toimintavalmiuksien vahvistaminen maaseudun kestävän vesihuollon ja sanitaation järjestämiseksi kaikille)”.
